Some families rely on school cafeteria programs to provide food for their kids.

But when the schools are closed someone has to fill the gap.

UMC is part of the partners in education program through Lubbock Independent School District.

UMC delivered 300 bags and thousands of food items to Brown Elementary School students, who might go without over the holiday break.

Eric Finley with UMC said the bags were filled with so many donations that they had to find other schools to give them to.

"In the past couple years though, our employees have been so generous, we've had more food than brown actually needs," Finley said. "We have asked LISD which other school they would like us they would like us to partner, in this particular program. So this year, we're also going to Bean Elementary and Jackson Elementary after this."
"I'm just touched that they support our kids and they're there for our kids," Brown Elementary School Principal Staci Sumners said. "It's truly a community raising the school."

All of the donations were made by UMC employees and there were even some toys and bikes that the employees snuck in.
