Texas Tech students brushed up on their networking skills Tuesday.

The College of Human Sciences hosted a retail symposium featuring speed interviews, networking and panel discussions. National and local employers like Wal-Mart, Target, H-E-B and United Supermarkets participated in the event.

"My role as a college professor is to help these young people be a success, and me standing in front of a classroom is not really the path. The path is giving them opportunities," Deborah Fowler with Texas Tech Retail Management said.

"It is absolutely a win-win situation," Max Ludwig with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. said. "It gives us an opportunity for us to get know these students a little bit more than just sitting down and having an hour interview with them."

John B. Malouf was honored with the Retail Leader Award. Malouf, owner of Malouf's Fine Apparel in Lubbock and Southlake, has been in business for 64 years.
