Texas Tech is tightening its financial belt in the face of tightening resources.

In a memo to faculty and staff  President Guy Bailey announced all hiring will have to go through an appointed committee to determine whether filling each open job is necessary.

The memo refers to the state budget shortfall, and in it, Bailey said Tech needed to prepare for "a worst case scenario."

No additional positions may be offered without clearing a human resources review.

The critically needed hiring committee will include Provost Bob Smith and Kyle Clark, the vice-president for administration and finance and chief financial officer. Grace Hernandez, chief of staff and interim director of human resources, is also on the committee.

In the memo's closing Bailey said, "By working carefully together. we can avoid the worst effects of the current financial problems."
