In an attempt to keep up with its growing student population, Texas Tech leaders broke ground on a new $54.8 million student housing complex Thursday.
The two-building complex will be located east of Knoxville Avenue, right by 19th Street and Texas Tech Parkway.
Texas Tech Vice Chancellor Michael Molina said the new residence hall will be geared towards upperclassmen and graduate students.
"It actually frames in our new west campus façade," Molina said, "so all the entry from Marsha Sharp as well as 19th Street and TX-DOT highway will be facing our new residence hall and entrance. So, it really is our entry to our campus with the new framework."
The complex will also include retail and food space and all 455 units will have kitchenettes.
The new residence hall will be ready by fall 2014.
