Seth Doege and the nation’s No. 2 offense struggled Saturday night against Iowa State, but Texas Tech was able to sneak out Ames, Iowa with a 24-13 victory.
The Red Raiders avenged their 2011 loss to the Cyclones in Lubbock.
Doege went 28-44 with 301 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Senior Eric Ward came up big for Tech and led the Red Raiders receiving corp with 122 yards and a touchdown.
The game was knotted up 7-7 going into halftime, and the Red Raiders were able to pull away after a few costly Steele Jantz turnovers.
The No. 1 defense in the nation was the true reason for Tech’s success.
The “Chain Gang” held the Cyclone offense to 190 total yards and forced 4 turnovers including three interceptions. Converted receiver Cornelius Douglas came up with two picks, while senior Cody Davis made an interception in the end zone to seal the game.
However, the secondary does not deserve all of the credit for holding the Cyclones to 73 yards of passing. The defensive line pressured Jantz all night and recorded five sacks on the night.
The Red Raiders take a 4-0 record into their next matchup as they will host Oklahoma.
