Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples attacks the Obama Administration's policies that he says will reek havoc on Texas producers. He preached to a sympathetic crowd of attendees at the Southwest Farm and Ranch Classic.
"I have never seen so many attempted policies coming out of Washington that actually threaten the domestic food productionability of U.S. farmers and ranchers. The cap and trade legislation that's being discussed is rightly named because it's going to cap our economic activity, it's going to cap our productivity and it'll trade American jobs overseas. And look, I don't like being dependent on foreign oil. We must not become dependent on foreign food," says Staples.
Staples says our region is especially vulnerable to this legislation because the area is encompassing a 150-mile radius of Lubbock generates more than $9 billion in agriculture sales.
