Gilberto Hinojosa, the newly-elected State Democratic Party Chairman, was in town Tuesday to stress the importance of voting and early voting.
He met with Lubbock's Tejano Democrats as they cast their ballots as a group at United/Amigos Supermarket. As the guest speaker at the group's meeting at Cavazos Middle School, Hinojosa addressed issues of importance to Texas Democrats. He said it is important to get their party's message out.
"We need to tell people who we are," Hinojosa said. "We are a party that represents the interest of most families in the state of Texas. People who have kids in school, people who strive for an opportunity to make a better life for themselves."
More than 7,000 people turned out Tuesday to cast their early vote in Lubbock County.
