The Mayor of Sweetwater resigned to make a bid for the vacated State Senate seat. Greg Wortham tendered his resignation Tuesday, indicating he plans to run for Robert Duncan's former District 28 spot. Wortham has been the Sweetwater mayor since 2007. The city commission plans to name a new mayor tomorrow.

Governor Rick Perry will call a special election for the District 28 seat in the near future. The open election will likely be held in November.
