Cindy Rugeley teaches political science at Texas Tech. She said a new survey conducted by one of her classes revealed some interesting facts about the people of Texas.
"It looks like Texas is joining the rest of the country in being totally dissatisfied with Congress," Rugeley said. "Roughly 11.5 percent either approve or strongly approve of Congress. The remaining 89 percent said they either disapprove or strongly disapprove. The results were consistent across party lines."
When asked which party was doing a better job, the most telling answers came from those who don't claim a party.
"What really stood out are those Texans who consider themselves to be Independents," Rugeley said. "More than 70 percent of Texans who say they are Independents thought neither party was doing a better job."
As for the latest source of public angst, this week's payroll tax stalemate, Lubbock Congressman Randy Neugebauer placed the blame squarely on the Senate.
"Unfortunately, the Senate under Mr. Reid has just not done any work this year," Neugebauer said. "So every time we have something to offer, we feel they do not. In this case, they just kicked the can down the road and that is frustrating. I think the American people are frustrated and I share that frustration."
A Democratic Congressman, on the other hand, might have a different response, and it is the blame game that has so many Americans fed up.
