A Democrat from Idalou launched his campaign for Lubbock County Constable Precinct 3 Monday.
Richard Mendez says professionalism and his record of service to his country, state, and area communities are among his qualifications.
"I've had over 18 years of public experience as far as in the military," he said. "I work currently at the prison. I've been out there for 15 years. I've been a law enforcement officer since 2004, and I've continued to serve the community in the fire department and taken an interim position of fire marshal."
Mendez says he aims to restore trust in the office. Current constable Ronnie Vasquez was arrested and posted bond in November on an aggravated assault charge.
Mendez's opponent in the Democratic primary is Marina Garcia.
