Lots of rumblings coming out of the west coast with regards to a possible "merger" of sorts, between the PAC 10 and the Big 12 if you want to call it a merger. Six Big 12 schools potentially bolting for the west.
As is usually the case in stories like these, rumors, lies, innuendo and other smoke screens have been circulating. Sunday morning, one such story indicating that Baylor, who had been missing from the proposed six schools, might squeeze in and possibly replace Tech.
Chris Level of Red Raider Sports.com and Double T 1043 spoke with Tech Chancellor Kent Hance, and the Chancellor alleviated fears about Tech being left out. Hance told Level that Tech is connected with Texas and Texas A and M, and have been for quite some time. While the three teams are rivals, Tech also has a lot of common interests from an educational standpoint. President Guy Bailey and Athletic Director Gerald Myers are all on the same page and have been for quite some time.
Hance also told Level that Tech has been working both sides: the Texas angle, and also the PAC 10. The Chancellor says he has close allies at a couple of schools. So if you're a Tech fan you have to like the position Tech is in - going to the expanded PAC 10 along with five other Big 12 South schools.
Still, nothing is easy, and there are plenty of potential pratfalls along the way to finality. Updates coming soon on Double T 1043, on Red Raider Sports.com, and on Fox 34 News @9.
