Car enthusiast Karl Champley, host of Wasted Spaces, says some small steps can prevent us from having to spend lots of money at the shop.

"Every time you go to the supermarket, I come back I look at the door and I've got a ding," Champley said. "It seems to happen at least once a week, but the scratches really easy to do if it's not too deep there's a system called scratch removal system."

He says this uses a common drill and you lightly sand the clear coat. It scares some people, he says.

"Many people freak out at this stage because it dulls the paint work, there's no need to worry because you'll sand it to where you remove the scratch and then you basically buff it with a rubbing compound and it makes it look so much better and to protect it you put on a wax."

He says the technology and the kits are handy.

"I've got five kits here," Champy said. "It's less than $200 and really its going to potentially save you $2,000, so I'm always educating people how to do projects in the home and I just think its great how that people can leave that front door get into the drive way, and apply the same home improvement methods to their cars."
