The ballot for the May election is growing. Self-employed Lubbock CPA Melissa Collier enters the race for the Lubbock School Board position from which incumbent Gordon Wilkerson is retiring.
She's running for the two-year term at-large member seat. Collier says she will bring the perspective of a mother and an accountant into each decision that comes before the school board.
She says she'll be open to new ways to encourage and track success for everyone involved in education.
"I want to make sure that kids all over this district are receiving an equal and excellent education. I'll strive to make sure that all of our students are college and university ready when they graduate. I'm also committed to letting parents know the "why" behind so many of the decisions that are made at the board level," says Collier.
Collier is the first to announce for this at-large seat. The deadline to file as a candidate for school board or for city office is March 8th.
