Lubbock County Commissioners ready to solicit other counties as clients for what they hope will become a regional medical examiner's office. Contract proposals are now approved for prospective clients.

Lubbock County reestablished the agency a year ago after Texas Tech discontinued its program.

Commissioner Bill McCay says with two board certified forensic pathologists the medical examiner staff can meet the needs of Lubbock and other West Texas counties.

"Everything that we do at Lubbock County is to try to be as efficient as possible and to maximize every tax dollar that we have and try to maximize our resources do that we don't overburden our medical examiner's office with too many cases that, that becomes unproductive yet do enough cases that it does offset and lower our cost here at Lubbock County," says McCay.

Commissioner McCay adds he's confident that there's enough demand for the Lubbock County agency to compete with a private company that also offers forensic services.
