Adam Rico, 26, was brought back to Lubbock Tuesday. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 7. He is suspected of a murder for hire plot that targeted a Lubbock County Sheriff's deputy.

The Sheriff's department said Rico paid Coty Garcia $500 to cause harm to the deputy. Garcia was arrested for unrelated charges on May 6. Sheriff Kelly Rowe said he admitted to the plot and intended to honor the contract he made with Rico.

"He, in fact, received monetary payment in return for making a hit on that particular officer," said Sheriff Rowe.

Garcia is being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Rico is also suspected of arson and aggravated assault on a police officer. In April, he was arrested in Lubbock, facing federal charges involving weapons and possession with intent to distribute meth. He was out on bond for those offenses, when law enforcement caught up to him in Albuquerque.

Sheriff Rowe believes there are other people involved in the murder for hire plot. He plans for more arrests in the future.
