The last time we spoke to Edwin Harris in February, he had just been reunited with his brother after more than 15 years. Now months later, he and Billy Ray are catching up on lost time.
"I get excited even when I call him, or my phone's ringing," Harris said. "I look down, and it says "Billy Harris", I know it's him, and it just perks me up. So, it's just been an amazing blessing."
Billy Ray was homeless, and living in Kansas City, Missouri. He returned a diamond ring to a passerby who accidentally dropped it into his change cup. The story went viral, and led to a family reunion in New York on the Today Show, unbeknownst to Billy Ray.
"While we were there, we were in a holding area, and I called him and talked to him about doing the Today Show," Harris said. "He was already upstairs, and I asked him if he would bring me a souvenir from New York. Of course, he didn't realize I was there, and when we walked in, the look in his eyes was awesome."
Harris said he'll never forget the feeling of seeing his brother face to face after all that time.
"By his act of kindness, we had the opportunity to dispell all those thoughts," Harris said, "reunite with him, and spend some time with him, spend some time loving on him, and letting him love on us."
He said Billy Ray is getting back on his feet one step at a time.
"He's been able to reestablish himself," Harris said. "Drivers license, ID, social security card again. He's taking small steps. He's reclaiming different areas of his life. He has a plan, and he's following it."
Billy Ray is still in Missouri, living in his own apartment. Harris said the family hopes to meet again sometime soon to help him figure out a plan.
