Friends and family of a 19 year-old murder victim are raising funds for her funeral and legal expenses for her infant child. Kayla Lewis was killed early Sunday morning by the father of her little girl.

A benefit ride will also help raise monies to assist the family of Lewis' best friend, 18 year-old Alex Bridges, who was also killed during the confrontation. Belinda Yates is Lewis' aunt.

"Alex is a hero to us. I want Alex's family to know he was a hero. He was trying to protect her and he lost his life too, but he died a hero." Yates said.

Yates also said Lewis was scared in the days leading up to her murder and would want others in the same situation to get help.

"Even though we did everything we could to try to protect her and get help. Try to get help early and get out of a relationship if it's domestic."

20 year-old Marc Antonio Reyes is assumed to be the killer. He took his own life after taking the child to his parents home that morning.

The benefit ride will start in the Lowes Home Center parking lot on Frankford Avenue at 2:00 p.m. The cost is ten dollars to participate. the ride will stop at Kayla's home and end up at The Sandtrap.

Friends and family are also putting on a BBQ at 17926 North CR 1400 in Abernathy. If you would like to eat, the cost will be $5.
