A Lubbock couple, who resides in New York, back in the Hub City for the half-Ironman triathlon. Shannon and Trevor Isom spent six months training for the triathlon.
They said that's how long it takes to mentally and physically prepare for such an event.
"It's always a constant battle of 'Okay, I gotta get up, I gotta do the workouts. It's not like people who try to stay healthy and say 'Ok, I'm done on the treadmill.' It's a constant battle of always fighting, you know, fighting for the right thing," Trevor said.
Both avid swimmers in high school and college, Shannon said they wanted to keep being active. She said it was a natural progression to participate in triathlons.
"Triathlon was the next step for us. I did my first one in college and then once we got married, we actually moved to California, and I got him doing it. We did a few couples' sprints and we've done a couple in New York and now was the time to take the next stepto do a half Ironman and hopefully one day it's on my bucket list to do a full Ironman." Shannon said.
The couple said they're debating whether or not they'll participate in an olympic distance later this year. That is about half the size of a half-Ironman.
