Five people are recovering from injuries after bullets were sprayed outside a Depot District bar early Thursday morning. It happened shortly before 1 a.m. in the alley behind Club Melt, at 1711 Texas Avenue.
Lubbock police report bar employees were trying to get a group of patrons who were causing a disturbance to leave the property when a fight erupted, followed by gunfire. Melt co-owner Brent Murray said security staffers repeatedly and politely asked the group of men to leave before escorting them outside to the alleyway.
"Whenever the fight broke out we called LPD, and as we were calling LPD, one of the gentlemen decided to walk to his car and grab his handgun. Then that's when he started to fire upon our security staff," Murray said.
Five victims were taken to hospitals, none with life-threatening injuries. The names of the victims have not been released and police have not made any arrests.
