Friends and family are raising money for teen murder victim Kayla Lewis. The event took place at Mackenzie park on Sunday. There were pony rides, trail rides and even a raffle.

Its goal was to raise money for Kayla's burial expenses as well as legal expenses concerning her infant daughter.

The event was sponsored by Rockin 'C' Trail Rides. Owner and operator Melinda Casares said the trail rides was her way of helping.

"They reached out to me and asked me if they knew of anything I could do or knew of any way to help with a fundraiser. And the only way I know how is through God's creatures," Casares said. "That's my ministry in life is to spread the passion and knowledge of horses so I thought, 'What a better way. It's the only way.' And I just felt compelled."

Lewis was killed last Sunday by the father of her daughter, Marc Antonio Reyes, 20.

Lewis's friend, Alex Bridges, 18, was also killed in the confrontation. Reyes later shot and killed himself at his parents residence.
