Funeral services have been set for the Reagan County Sheriffs deputy killed in the line of duty in Big Lake on Wednesday. 26-year-old Josh Mitchell was fatally wounded while attempting to contact a suspect about an incident that had happened earlier in the day.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Big Lake.
Sheriff Jeff Garner said the shooter, 42-year-old Marcus Wade Madison, then barricaded himself in a nearby home. A 17-hour-long standoff followed, involving Lubbock County Negotiators and Swat Team members, as well as officers from many other law enforcement agencies.
Madison reportedly attempted suicide before he was taken into custody. Deputy Mitchell was an eight-year veteran of the Reagan County S.O.
