Wayland Baptist files suit against former CFO

Wayland Baptist University in Plainview filed a civil lawsuit against its former Chief Financial Officer, James E. Smith. It comes during the midst of an internal investigation linked to financial mismanagement.

According to a university statement, Smith was fired on April 11 for policy violations. The lawsuit is filed in Hale County. It claims Smith misappropriated university funds and seeks exemplary damages of $500,000.

University Administrators have contacted police and state they will cooperate with any potential criminal investigation.
