Nearly 80,000 women, children and men found sanctuary from domestic violence last year in Texas.
That's why state legislators have mail boxes full of post cards advocating for more funding of Family Violence Protection Programs by the Texas Council on Family Violence.
Laura White a survivor of domestic violence told FOX 34 about her message of hope and perseverance after being shot by her husband in late 2009.
"I needed to talk to someone," she said. "I didn't know who I could talk to because no one understood what was going through my head. I picked up the phone and called the National Domestic Violence hotline and talked to someone for a good two and a half hours just crying on the phone, where do I go, what do I do. She gave me the information for the Houston Area Women's Center and she really recommended that I get some help."
Last year 102 women died due to domestic violence.
