Soon a phone call won't be the only option for leaving an anonymous tip for Lubbock Police.

LPD Lieutenant Neal Barron says work is almost complete on a program that will allow a source to protect their identity while sending investigators information about a crime through a text message or e-mail.

"We're currently in the process of training detectives and officers up on how to use the new system and kind of getting the system settings down and all the little details prior to launching the system. It's up and running but we're just not ready to accept tips via the system yet," says Barron.

The familiar Crimeline telephone hotline, 741-1000, will still continue once this new program begins.
