For ten years he's been a symbol of Texas Tech Athletics, but Midnight Matador is on to greener pastures. The iconic horse was honored at Saturday's football game.
He's the 13th horse to ride for the Masked Rider Program. He has carried 11 riders down the football field. His retirement stems from a leg injury.
Midnight Matador is the longest-serving mascot in the programs history, and has traveled more than 100,000 miles.
He will still make limited appearances through the rest of the season. The advisory committee is discussing alternatives for a permanent home for the horse.
The committee is also reviewing options for selecting a new one.
