Many participated in the American Diabetes Association's Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. More than 2,000 participants stretched their legs Saturday morning. The walk was held at Mackenzie Park.

Nearly 26 million Americans including more than 30,000 in Lubbock have diabetes.

Chairman of the Walk to Stop Diabetes Trent Hendrick, said "It gives us hope because the money we are raising goes to a great cause," he said. "And trying to find a cure, and educating people about diabetes, and people advocates for those people who have diabetes, so it just gives us hope to see all the walkers out here."

An estimated 18.8 million have been diagnosed. However, seven million are unaware they have the disease.

Many from our parent company Ramar Communications participated in the event, and helped raise money for the organization.
