SUV driver testifies in first day of Torres trial

The murder trial of 29-year-old Cristobal Torres got underway Tuesday morning.

Torres is charged with causing the death of 16-year-old Joe Louis Martinez on November 12, 2011.

According to police, Martinez was critically wounded in an SUV, when passengers in another vehicle fired gunshots near 34th Street and Avenue P. Martinez was taken to a hospital and later died.

The SUV driver testified that he, Martinez, and two other people left a club after an argument with some men in the parking lot.

The victim's cousin testified he saw a passenger in a car following the SUV fire several shots at it.

Co-defendant, 26-year-old Phillip Gonzales, Jr. is free on bond awaiting trial. That date has not been set.
