Lubbock County Commissioners voted Monday to apply for a test program, recently enacted by the legislature, that would make the services offered by the drivers license bureau more accessible.

Commissioner Mark Heinrich said it could give residents outside of Lubbock a DPS location closer to home.

"It is a service that we used to provide in Slaton, the largest municipality inside Lubbock County besides the city of Lubbock," Heinrich said. "So we'll get our name on the list and move forward to see if that's something that we'd like to enter an agreement with the DPS."

Henrich said three Texas counties in the 50,000 to one million population range will be selected for this pilot program.
