Council honors first responders for acid leak response

During its Thursday meeting, City Council honored first responders for their handling of a chemical leak at Bayer Crop Sciences on May 6. The emergency involved a leaking cylinder of hydrogen chloride. 

Lubbock Fire, Police and UMC EMS took part in what amounted to a 16-hour response. Homes in the Guadalupe Neighborhood were evacuated, and businesses and schools near the plant were closed as a precaution.
