Texas Tech and many other public universities took a major hit in funding after the last legislative session. Funding from the state was cut drastically but it looks like things may be a little different this session.

The budget bills passed in the house and senate look encouraging according to Tech interim president Lawrence Schovanec. A conference committee is expected to be appointed soon to work out the differences between the two.

Confidence in that legislation and money coming into Tech from other sources will help make up for the previous deficit, but not entirely. Schovanec spoke on FOX Talk in the morning.

"Tech is going to have more resources than they had in the last biennium. Part of it is related to our growth, the other part is related to the increased support from the senate and house." He said.

Schovanec also added that Tech and the state of Texas are better off than other states, who took even bigger cuts to higher education.
