LP&L requests city council put smart meters on city budget

Making a switch to smart electric meters seemed to be the top agenda item in a special called meeting Monday afternoon between the Utility Board and City Council. Lubbock Power and Light's Board wanted council to include the transition to these meters in the city budget over the next few years.

If LP&L is paying the city of Lubbock franchise fees, as if it is a separate corporation, then why in heck are they asking the city to donate the meters from extorted taxpayer funds. If it is part of the city, then the embezzled franchise fees should be paid back to LP&L customers. All of the fees collected since the fees were started should be immediately refunded.
