There's a way for you to put your leftover Halloween sweets to a patriotic purpose, with the help of some local dentists.

Both Kool Smiles locations in Lubbock are candy donation drop-off locations through Wednesday Nov. 6. It is part of "Operation Gratitude", which sends treats and dental care packages to troops overseas.

"For every 25 pieces they bring in we'll give them a toy," Kathy Ancell, with Kool Smiles, said, "and we're going to send that candy to our troops as a nice little treat. We'll also send any leftover toys to their kids as well."

In 2012, more than a ton of candy was donated by children for the troops through Kool Smiles offices across the country.
