On December 11, 1981, KJTV hit the airwaves for the first time.  John Wayne in “Rio Lobo” kicked off that historic night.

The station now known as FOX 34 has had a very successful 30 year run.  The man behind that success, Ramar Communications founder Ray Moran was in the FOX 34 studios Sunday evening to celebrate this special anniversary.  Moran explained how Ramar came to be. The marriage between Ray and his wife Mary, was also the inspiration behind Ramar.

Combine their names and you now have the company that runs four radio stations and five TV stations in Lubbock.

Moran talked about the early days of KJTV.  It all stared on the current site at 98th and University with an 800 foot tower and a dream.  KTEZ radio, featuring beautiful music, actually provided the start for KJTV.

Ray and Mary now live in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  They still have a very big part in the continuing success of Ramar Communications and FOX 34 that is now beginning a new decade of broadcasting.
