Services set for former TTU coach Carlen

Funeral services will be held Friday in Columbia, South Carolina for former Texas Tech head football coach Jim Carlen who died Sunday at the age of 79.

Carlen led the Red Raiders to four bowl games during his tenure from 1970 to 1974. Those years spawned several successful NFL players and two assistant coaches who've made names for themselves: Romeo Crennel and Bill Parcells.

He was inducted into the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor in 2008.
