More jobs in the medical field, in demand and coming with considerable pay on the South Plains.

"When you're talking about administrative positions, the people running the hospitals, those are usually well-paid positions," Martin Aguirre, with Workforce Solutions, said. He says medical health service managers or nurses, among those on a list of well-paid occupations. The data based on numbers available from the Census Bureau and Department of Labor Statistics.

"It's the proficiency in a particular job, it's the demand of a particular job. The more in demand the work is, the better it pays," Aguirre said.

Jobs in technology that tend to be in demand are computer programmers and information system manager positions. But Aguirre says the pay scale can vary.

"The jobs on this list start at about 17 to 18 dollars an hour, and go up from there to almost 40 dollars," Aguirre said.

He says as a general rule the higher end requires more education or certification, but that doesn't always hold true. He points to the case of a nurse versus a nursing instructor.

"Due to the nature of nursing, the shift differentials, the work performed and the hours performed, you can gross more money as a nurse in a hospital," Aguirre said.

He says most of these jobs call for a Master's degree or specialty training, so look for the qualifications ahead of time to see if it's feasible for you.

"You should examine your own situation as far as skill level and what it would take for you to obtain some of these other levels. For instance, how many years might it take you?" Aguirre said.

As for how to secure one, Aguirre recommends starting with friends and family then moving on to company web sites under the "job seeking" tab. Also, don't rule out the power of social media, where jobs are also posted.
