Dallas Police are receiving a federal grant for their Internet crimes task force. They want to collaborate with Lubbock officers to investigate online crimes against children.
In exchange, the LPD would get $5,000 to be used for training, equipment and operations. This collaboration is a first between the two departments and, most likely, it won't be the last.
Online crimes cross jurisdictions -- the victim might be in Lubbock while the suspect is in Dallas or out of the state. This makes these cases much harder to solve and requires teamwork.
"It's one of those things, even more so than traditional crimes, where someone simply drove across jurisdiction boundaries. There is virtually no limit when you're dealing with Internet crimes," says LPD Captain Greg Stevens.
The collaboration requires city council approval. It's expected to receive unanimous approval during Wednesday's meeting.
