The community of Smyer will host a car wash on Thursday to help with funeral expenses for 22-year-old John Gonzales, from Smyer, who died after a weekend motorcycle wreck.

The fundraiser will take place at Rick's Tire Warehouse, 7819 Slide Rd., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gonzales was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by 17-year-old Zachary Craven when, according to investigators, Craven tried to stop before hitting an ATV that had run out of gas.

The crash happened at FM 2378 and County Road 7100 near Wolfforth.

Craven remains hospitalized in satisfactory condition but Gonzales died on Monday.

Donations to the John Gonzales Funeral Fund can be made at Prosperity Bank Branch locations.
