Family safe after Wednesday morning house fire

A Lubbock family is safe after they were rudely awakened by an early Wednesday morning fire in their home.

The fire was reported just after 4 a.m. in the 7400 block of 18th Street.

According to fire investigators, a child with a lighter started the blaze and the child alerted a family member when the flames began to spread.

Investigators said there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
