Federal Aviation Administration furloughs began Sunday, which can mean significant delays for travelers nationwide. Air passengers in Lubbock, however, will have it a little easier than most.

FAA Spokesman Lynn Lunsford said serious daily delays are not expected at Lubbock Preston International. He said the FAA workforce staffing plan has a total of 24 employees in Lubbock. However, the time of day, the weather, and even traffic conditions at other airports could still affect flight schedules. He encouraged travelers to check their flight status before going to the airport.

Delays of ten minutes to an hour are expected at major hubs, but the waits could soar in some instances as furloughs force airports to close runways because there won't be enough traffic controllers.
