Two suspects accused of capital murder in the death of a Lubbock doctor are now defendants in a lawsuit filed by the victim's family.

The mother and two sons of Dr. Joseph Sonnier filed the wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Thomas Dixon and David Shepard. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Dr. Sonnier was found shot and stabbed to death in his Lubbock home in July. Dr. Dixon and Shepard are each charged with two counts of capital murder, one claiming this was a murder for hire, the other claiming the murder was committed during the course of a burglary at Dr. Sonnier's home.
