Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is running to keep his job against three fellow republicans who see him as a vulnerable target:
State Senator Dan Patrick, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples.
The popularity of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, a conservative populist and tea party favorite, has observers expecting a race to see who can be the most conservative.
Cruz defeated Dewhurst in the 2012 republican primary by attacking him from the right.
Dewhurst, in a one-on-one interview with Fox 34's Jeff Klotzman, makes sure that his conservative credentials are not overlooked.
