Lubbock Independent School District is hosting the Texas Destination Imagination or "DI" tournament this weekend.
It's the largest event of its kind in the United States.
The event is estimated to attract more than 2,400 students, with a total anticipated attendance of over 4,000 people.
It's also expected to draw an extremely large economic impact for Lubbock.
Sue Shanks, the state director of DI says this weekend students are exploring the best of their creative skills for a bid to DI Global Finals.
"They are the ones that are responsible for doing everything. The coaches or team managers are there to make sure everything is okay. They can go buy things the team tell them to, but the solution to the challenge is the team," Shanks said.
Ten Lubbock ISD teams ranging from elementary school to high school qualified for the state tournament.
