The trial of 29-year-old Cristobal Torres came to an end Wednesday evening, after a jury found him guilty of causing the death of Joe Louis Martinez.
Witnesses testified Martinez, 19, was riding in an SUV on November 12, 2011, when passengers in another vehicle fired gunshots near 34th Street and Avenue P. Martinez was taken to a hospital where he later died.
A detective told the jury Torres said he believed the people in the SUV were armed and admitted to shooting at the vehicle.
The driver of the SUV Martinez was riding in testified Tuesday that he, Martinez, and two other people left a club after an argument with some men in the parking lot.
Testimony in the punishment phase of the trial begins Thursday morning.
Co-defendant, 26-year-old Phillip Gonzales, Jr. is free on bond awaiting trial. That date has not been set.
