Brownfield Police Chief Tony Serbantez reports that a 71 year old man found unresponsive outside of a nursing home last month died of hypothermia.

An employee found Willie Joe Byers on the ground inside of a fenced area at the Tumbleweed Care Center, in freezing morning temperatures on February 3rd.

The autopsy report will be forwarded to the Attorney Generals office, which is the main criminal investigative agency in the matter.

The Department of Aging and Disabilities Services is also looking into whether state regulations were violated.
