For six years Biff had a key role in law enforcement. His tour of service reached far beyond Lubbock County. His owner, Captain David Turner, said the journey they shared took them all over the world.

"Super bowls, NBA finals and All-Star games," Turner said. "PGA events, Nascar events, Major League Baseball, World Series events.

Biff's daily routine was more than toys, water and biscuits.

"We'd go out and train 80 to 120 times a day," Turner said. "Car lots, businesses, could be hotel rooms, could be big warehouses. Go out and do field searches looking for stimuli, looking for weapons."

Biff's nose tested for explosives. It became a rigorous training regimen, which brought him closer to Turner.

"Rather than waste time and get a hotel and spend the night, I'd pull over to a roadside park, crawl in the back in Biff's dog compartment with him," he said. "We'd lock the doors, and chill out and sleep."

Biff's role as a weapon's inspector also presented challenges for the Turner family, especially when vacation time arrived.

"Being an explosive sniffing dog, I was never able to go next door to my neighbor and say 'here's five pounds of C-4, here's five pounds of dynamite. Here's some weapons and stuff. Would you go hide them 80 to 100 times a day for the next seven days because I'm on vacation?'."

The extra time on the road was only a plus for Biff and his master. Especially while he was hundreds of miles away from his family.

"I wasn't coming home on the weekend to see my wife and daughter," he said. "We were gone sometimes, three days at home a week. And sometimes, I might be gone ten weeks. We're at the Olympics for three, four or five weeks and, we're out here for ten weeks, and you're out here for six weeks and just gone constantly.

"Biff got to be my buddy."

Biff was close to 14 years old. The Turner family has another pooch, Navarro. He's also retired from law enforcement.
