Second individual charged in mail fraud scheme of UMC

Another suspect has been charged in connection with an alleged false invoice scheme targeting University Medical Center. 

Rodolfo Reyes Mata is accused of one count of mail fraud and aiding and abetting. 

According to the charging document, in August of 2011 Mata submitted an invoice to UMC for 3,250 dollars in goods and services that were never provided. 

Last month former UMC Vice President Greg Bruce pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud related to the case. 

According to the court documents, Bruce confessed he conspired with Mata in the scheme that billed UMC out of almost 682,000 dollars from June 2007 to December of 2011. 

Bruce is free on bond awaiting sentencing, which the maximum penalty for the crime is 20 years in prison and a 250,000 dollar fine.
