Going on 57 years as an institution, All Saints Episcopal School is expanding its horizons with its first-ever high school program. The project, which includes a combination of building new spaces and remodeling existing ones, will happen gradually, starting with only a freshmen class this coming year.

Athletic Director Robert Brashears said that decision took some thought and research of other schools.

"That was just kind of the general consensus on how to build something to make sure the quality stays where it is as it builds and as it grows," Brashears said. "So you are not overwhelmed at the beginning with, all of a sudden, 130 new kids and four new grades and starting it all. So it gives us a chance to kind of grow into it."

This group of 9th graders is getting the rare chance to be there from the very beginning, starting their own traditions along the way.

"These youngsters are going to have an opportunity to absolutely build their own high school and have some input in everything they do," Brashears said. "And they obviously have a little bit of the Pioneer spirit, but that is fascinating that they are going to get to build their own high school. And when they leave, they will truly be able to say that they left a legacy."

Also a parent of one of those incoming freshmen, Brashears said this will affect all students within the All Saints community.

"Those older kids know that little eyes are watching them, and there is nothing more powerful than that. And for the younger ones to have someone to look up to is just fantastic," Brashears said. "I have a little 4-year-old who is in the 4-year-old program, and her best friends and the highlight of her day is getting to see the teenagers."

Each grade will be maxed out at 32 students, and Brashear said once they have 9th through 12th grade, they will be about the size of a 3A school.
