Two people and an officer are injured after a pickup crashes into a building Saturday afternoon.

It happened on East Highway 84 near Slaton, just east of the Coors Plant. Officials reported the driver of the pickup, Benjamin Ortiz, 49, of Lubbock, veered off the highway into a cotton field and drove into the building. Ortiz and his passenger, Melissa Martinez-Rios, 43, also of Lubbock, were trapped for quite some time. Both occupants had to be cut out of the vehicle after the building had collapsed.

A deputy on scene was injured. Both occupants were transported to UMC by Aerocare with non-life threatening injuries.
The incident is currently being investigated.
