Power issues continue to plague Lubbock Power and Light along with several sectors in the city. Most of Texas Tech was without power, as well as the Arnet Benson neighborhood and several neighborhoods in west and Southwest Lubbock

Traffic was at a stand still during the rush hour, with traffic lights at intersections either out or blinking red. This blackout triggered at about 3:45 p.m. and lasted for more than an hour.

City staffers reported the power surge appeared to be residual issues related to this past Saturday’s outage. LP&L performed tests earlier Monday on the lightning arrestor when it failed again.

"We're asking people to keep there windows shut, window shades down, and try to keep it as cool as you can,” said Mayor Glen Robertson. “We're also asking people to try to cut their load down until we can get the system a little bit more stable."

The mayor said it will take about a week to analyze this failure and to come up with a good solution for the problem. The good news this time, is water pressure withstood these power interruptions.
