The pilot of a rented plane and his passenger plead guilty to a drug charge in Lubbock federal court Thursday.

California residents 48-year-old Michael Gallanter and 31-year-old Ethan Wynne-Wade each plead guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver approximately 69 kilograms of marijuana.

According to court documents, federal agents and Lubbock police searched a private aircraft in April after it landed to refuel during a flight from California to Georgia. Investigators found duffel bags containing drugs in a compartment near the back of the plane.

Both defendants remain free on bond. A sentencing date has not been set yet.
